Standards

Sponsored Content & Advertising Policy.

How we keep advertising separate from journalism, and how we label paid content.

Advertising helps pay for our journalism. It never buys it.

Labelling

  • Content paid for by an advertiser is clearly marked Sponsored at the top of the page, with the line: “Sponsored content — paid for by an advertiser. Not written by our newsroom.”
  • Display advertisements are shown in marked advertising spaces and are never designed to look like our stories.

Separation

  • Our reporters and editors do not write sponsored content.
  • Advertisers and sponsors have no say over our news coverage, and do not see stories before publication.
  • Our coverage of a company is not affected by whether it advertises with us.

What we don’t accept

We refuse advertising that is misleading, unlawful, discriminatory or that promotes scams, as well as political advertising that is not clearly identified as such.

For advertising enquiries, see Advertise with us.
