New Delhi hosts BRICS parliamentarians as India deepens ties with Poland and the UAE
A busy diplomatic week: the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum, talks between Narendra Modi and Donald Tusk, and an Indian Navy squadron in the Maldives.
New Delhi is hosting the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum on 26 and 27 October, bringing together lawmakers from the bloc’s member countries.
India and Poland
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk held talks on defence, space, nuclear energy and wider bilateral cooperation.
The Gulf and the Indian Ocean
India and the United Arab Emirates discussed regional security, economic cooperation and keeping energy and trade routes safe — a pressing concern with attacks on shipping and Gulf infrastructure pushing oil prices higher. The Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron, meanwhile, has arrived in the Maldives as part of an overseas deployment.
At the United Nations
Indian representatives at the UN raised concerns about terrorism and the transfer of sensitive weapons technology to non-state actors.
