Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney says trade talks with the Trump administration have picked up slightly as the United States moves closer to Canada’s demands.
Separately, sources told Reuters that the two countries are working on a deal to ease U.S. tariffs on Canadian steel and autos — two sectors deeply integrated across the border, where parts and finished vehicles can cross several times before a sale.
Any agreement would be closely watched by manufacturers on both sides, and by other U.S. trading partners negotiating their own tariff relief.
